For a Jordan curve \(\Gamma\) Dzhrbashyan introduced a system of rational functions which generalizes the Faber polynomials. The author study the question of when the Dzhrbashyan system forms a basis (a Riesz basis of \(p = 2)\) in its closed linear span in \(L^ p (\Gamma)\).
