The authors consider linear, autonomous delay equations \(x'(t) = L(x_ t)\), with values \(x(t)\) in a Banach space \(E\) and use the spectral theory of the solution semigroup on \(C([- r,0], E)\) in order to discuss phenomena analogous to the Fredholm alternative.
