The author determines the number of genera and the number of classes under rational equivalence of primitive \(n\)-ary quadratic forms of a given nonzero integral determinant \(d\). Both coincide for \(n\geq 3\) if and only if \(d\) is odd and squarefree and, if \(n\) is even, congruent to \(n-1\) modulo 4.
