Using ideas of \textit{J. M. Souriau} [Structure des systèmes dynamiques, Dunod (1970; Zbl 0186.58001)], the authors associate massless elementary free particles with certain symplectic fiber bundles over the spacetime manifold. In particular, they study conditions such that the pull-back of such a bundle to a hypersurface of simultaneity has discrete holonomy group. In analogy to the Aharonov-Bohm effect, they interpret this situation as saying that ``some physical magnitudes take discrete values''.
