For an initial-boundary value problem of the one-dimensional heat conduction equation over a finite length interval, the author discusses a two-parameter method which reduces to a finite difference method for the value zero for one parameter and reduces to a finite element method with linear elements for the value of 1/6 for the other parameter. Some necessary and sufficient conditions related to the two-parameter method, are determined. Numerical examples are also presented.
