Based on his previous publications, the author reports nonstandard finite difference schemes to approximate ordinary differential equations. The main idea is to generate an approximation which will preserve the qualitative behaviour of the solution of the continuous problem, i.e. the fixed points and their characteristics, etc. In this way qualitatively correct approximate solutions are obtained for all values of the stepsize. Appropriate examples illustrate the approach.
