From authors' summary: A laminated plate is discretized by using a single-field displacement finite element model. The procedure is based on neglecting the derivatives of inplane forces and twisting moments, as well as on the neglecting the mixed derivatives of bending moments with respect to in-plane coordinates. The distributions of the transverse stresses through the thickness are evaluated by using only transverse shear forces and thermal effects resulting from the finite element analysis. Numerical results are presented for four- and ten-layer cross-ply laminates subjected to mechanical and thermal loads.
