Localization in a coupled standard map lattice (Q1808345)

The authors deal with the dynamics of quasi-periodic and chaotic ``almost breathers''. They consider excitations in a lattice of coupled standard maps. Localized periodic solutions can be found in analogy to breathers in a continuous-time oscillator lattice. The standard map considered by the authors is a typical nonlinear system, where the regions of chaotic and quasiperiodic dynamics coexist. A quasiperiodic critical state has extremely large life time for small couplings, and for large coupling evolves slowly into global chaos.
