This book, split into eight chapters, provides the reader with a deep insight of workflow processes. The book starts with an overview of business process management and redesign, and workflow management systems. The second chapter deals with workflow modelling describing workflow components, Petri nets and stochastic workflow nets. The third chapter describes in detail the techniques and methodologies of workflow design including product-based workflow design. The paragraph then proceeds with the issues of performance evaluation of workflows and resource allocation in workflows, including analysis of timed Petri and stochastic workflow nets. Heuristic methods for workflow redesign are presented next, followed by a very useful chapter of examples of direct practical experience. The book concludes with a detailed list of references where the interested reader can pursue the topics covered further, although an index is missing and would have been useful to the reader.
