A bouquet of matroids is a union of matroids stable under intersection. Building on some of their earlier work, the authors develope a theory of bouquets of matroids, and in particular bouquets of geometric lattices, parallel to the theory of matroids. Several equivalent definitions of bouquets through flats, independent sets, and circuits, are given, as well as some interesting examples of bouquets of matroids. The authors study various operations on bouquets, like deletion, truncation, contraction and restriction. Furthermore, they are concerned with strong maps, and the shellability of several simplicial complexes related to bouquets of matroids.
