The notion of association scheme on triples and related ternary nonassociative algebras are introduced as a generalization of the association scheme and the Bose-Mesner algebra. Several interesting identities are obtained. The examples connected with 2-designs, 2- transitive permutation groups and two-graphs are investigated and the notion of partial 3-design is introduced.
