The aim of the paper is to get a description of reduced norms for the skew field of non-commutative rational functions and to use it for a computation of \(K_ 1(A)\) for algebras of arbitrary index over an arbitrary field \(k\). The main theorem gives an expression for \(SK_ 1(D)\) where \(D\) is a central skew-field in terms of \(SK_ 1\) of some skew-fields of non-commutative rational fields intrinsically defined by \(D\).
