We obtain a certain inequality for the best uniform approximation of continuous periodic functions, and with its help we give simple proofs of results due to N. P. Kornejchuk on the best approximation in the class of functions with a given convex majorant of the modulus of continuity and on the exact constants in the Jackson inequality.
