The authors compute the periodic cyclic homology for the convolution algebra \(C_c^\infty(G)\) of a totally disconnected group acting properly and simplicially on an affine building. Joint work of the first author with \textit{P. Baum} and \textit{A. Connes} [Contemp. Math. 167, 241-291 (1994; Zbl 0830.46061)] is cited for an analogous conjecture concerning the \(K\)-theory of \(C^*_r(G)\).
