The author compares the groups of differential characters of Cheeger and Simons for smooth manifolds to Karoubi's multiplicative cohomology associated to a filtration of the de Rham complex of the manifold. In particular, explicit maps are defined giving isomorphisms in some degrees for the special case of Deligne ``bête'' filtration.
