A heat bath combined with a Metropolis method for updating the links of lattice gauge theory is proposed. It is a variation of the method of \textit{N. Cabibbo} and \textit{E. Marinari} [Phys. Lett. B 119, 387 (1982)], but is better suited for vectorized programs and parallel processors. It preserves the essential features of that method, but runs at a slightly faster speed.
