It is shown for selfadjoint problems, and also for nonselfadjoint problems with a domain of regularity, that a generalized finite integral transformation can be developed which works for a far broader class of problems than the classical Sturm-Lionville problems. It becomes obvious that such transformation is essentially obtained by means of a reinterpretation of Galerkin's method.
