Inhomogeneous random fields and processes are modeled as parametric fields. A general form of parametric models that adequately represents the first two moments (and in many cases one-dimensional distribution) of the field is found. As a special case the authors consider quasi- homogeneous fields, locally homogeneous fields and processes with stationary increments. Some concrete examples are given: the vertical constituent of atmospheric turbulence, fields of cloudiness with given statistical characteristics and the surface of the sea.
