The notion of comparison by the Pareto criterion is introduced for classes (sets) of functionally similar systems for which the Pareto optimal sets are known. This notion generalizes the Pareto comparison of separate systems (alternatives). Relationships are established between the comparison of classes of systems by this criterion and the comparison of the multidimensional exchange diagrams of their performance indices describing the Pareto-optimal set in the criterial space. Some applications of the new technique and some associated problems are discussed. It is shown, in particular, that comparison of classes of systems with multiplicative exchange diagrams reduces to Pareto comparison of the parameter vectors defining these diagrams.
