Determination of the truncation error in difference equations (Q1820561)

This paper begins with a summary of a method for computing the coefficients of difference equations devised to model the performance of linear differential equations and goes on to show how the method may be extended to yield an expression for the truncation error in the solution of the difference equation. The argument is then developed further to show how the truncation error may be determined for any difference equation, whatever its derivation, that has been devised to model a given differential equation.
