The author proposes to represent a vague concept by a random set rather than by a type m fuzzy set. The paper presents the law of comparative judgment in equational form. Additional assumptions are presented to solve this equations. With this approach which is closely related to psychometric techniques developed by Thurstone we can estimate the means of the membership function distributions.
