The paper concerns propagation of plane longitudinal waves in a long circular rod made of an elastic material whose particles include two atoms of different thermomechanical properties. After establishing the constitutive equations of the constituent materials making up the diatomic material, equations of motion are solved using four quasi- potential functions. Satisfaction of the boundary conditions imposed yields four dispersion equations, analyzed in more detail for relaxed bonds between the constituent materials. A numerical example is illustrated by a graph.
