The problem of constructing stable extra boundary conditions for one linear equation of a hyperbolic type is considered. A review of works devoted to the construction of extra boundary conditions for systems of equations with constant coefficients and gas dynamics equations, are given. The examples of numerical calculations of gas dynamics equations, illustrating the influence of choice of extra boundary conditions on solution, are presented.
