(From author's summary.) A slow zone model is applied to contaminant dispersion in shear flows. In this model the flow is divided into a fast zone in the middle and a slow zone near the wall. The resulting pair of coupled linear dispersion-relations is solved by Fourier transformation and the Fourier integrals are inverted approximately. Results are shown to be in reasonable agreement with previously calculated numerical solutions for laminar pipe or channel flow.
