For linear difference equations with variable, non-negative coefficients necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the asymptotic exponential growth of its solutions. These conditions show how the speed of convergence of the only positive root \(x_ 0(t)\) of the t-th characteristic equation to a limit \(x_ 0\) is related to the asymptotically exponential solutions.
