The propagation of an electromagnetic field through a stratified medium is considered. The function A describing a property of the medium satisfies the integro-differential equation with the reflection kernel as an initial data. The aim of the paper is to pose the equation for A as an operator differential equation in the Banach space C(0,1). This permits the author to obtain local existence, uniqueness, continuous dependence and differentiability of the solution with respect to the initial data.
