This paper presents computational efficient means of calculating the residual vector required in the application of global element method (GEM) to the solution of nonlinear problems via Newton's or quasi- Newton's approach. The formulation is concerned with linear or nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations and some two-dimensional test examples are involved to demonstrate the ideas put forward.
