The author studies the behaviour of the sequences \(\{(M_ nf)^{(m)}(x)\}_ n\) and \(\{(P_ nf)^{(m)}(x)\}_ n\), \(m\geq 1\) of Szâsz operators and Baskakov operators respectively by using the functional introduced by \textit{D. D. Stancu} [Math. Z. 98, 46-51 (1967; Zbl 0169.074)]. Previously the only results available on such operators were on the first order derivative.
