The author constructs respectively, a prime entire function and a prime nonentire meromorphic function of finite order whose second power and derivative are not pseudo-prime. This resolves a problem posed by \textit{G. Song} and \textit{J. Huang}, Kodai Math. J. 10, 42-48 (1987; Zbl 0613.30027).
