The author introduces a non equilibrium entropy by a coarse-graining procedure and uses it as basis for the study of approach to equilibrium. The main conclusion is that while the ergodicity corresponds to the states of equilibria over the phase-cells initially, the mixing of the phases brings out the relation of the system to statistical equilibrium over the whole of the phase space.
