The lowering operators for the quantum universal enveloping algebra \(U_ q({\mathfrak gl}(N+1))\) are defined and used for a constructive description of the Gelfand-Zetlin basis for irreducible modules. A result of \textit{M. Jimbo} [Lect. Notes Phys. 246, 335-361 (1986)] is reproved. The explicit action of the lowering operators on the Gelfand-Zetlin basis is given.
