The author gives elementary, geometric proofs for the orders of the groups \(PGL(d+1,q)\) and AGL(d,q) by considering them as automorphism groups of PG(d,q) and AG(d,q). The automorphisms of the spaces induced by automorphisms of GF(q) are not considered.
