This paper studies the smoothability of PL manifolds \(X^{2n}\) homotopy equivalent to \(CP^ n\) for \(4\leq n\leq 6\). The results are expressed as congruences for the splitting invariants which are equivalent to smoothability. The results are applied to analyze \(Z_ p\) actions on X having a codimension 2 fixed component.
