In this paper a proof is given of the conformal invariance of the kernel dimension of a self-adjoint Dirac operator associated with one of the canonical Hermitian connections on a Hermitian spin surface. In the case of nonnegative conformal scalar curvature an estimate is given for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator associated with the Chern connection. Finally, a list is given of the surfaces on which its kernel is nontrivial.
