The author gives an internal construction of split \((n+1)\)-truncated simplicial objects within the category of split \(n\)-truncated simplicial objects, all in a fixed left exact category \({\mathcal B}\). This identification is used to give an inductive construction of the nerve of an \(n\)-groupoid. The exposition contains a substantial amount of detail.
