The authors propose a non-smooth model for three-dimensional contact problem with Coulomb friction, not utilizing the slip angle as a varable. The basic equations and inequalities are taken in a form discretized by using the finite element method. Based on the non-smooth analysis (i.e. using generalized derivatives), the non-smooth damped Newton method is implemented directly for the governing equations, leading to a relatively simple solution procedure with little storage requirements and short computation time. Some numerical results are worked out.
