A nonlinear oscillatory phenomenon similar to the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction is studied. A so-called saline oscillator is under consideration. An oscillatory flow of water is generated when a cup containing saline water, with a small orifice in its base, is placed within an outer vessel containing pure water. Bifurcation theory gives the possibility to study various nonlinar phenomena in this system.
