Domain decomposition are well suited for both parallelization and coupling of different discretization schemes. The coupled problem is reduced to the Schur complement equation on the skeleton of the decomposition. Boundary integral equations are used to describe the local Steklov-Poincaré operators. Conditions for global stability and error estimates are derived. For the iterative solution efficient local and global preconditioning techniques are described.
