The authors consider Mendelsohn and Steiner triple systems as algebraic structures focusing on the continuity of the involved functions when the base set of the system is endowed with a suitable topology. Examples are given in the infinite case. Continuous Steiner triple systems on the real line are specially investigated. Finally, a complete characterisation of continuous finite Mendelsohn and Steiner triple systems is obtained.
