This paper proposes an efficient technique which simplifies the difficult problem of designing a 2D variable filter with quadrantally symmetric magnitude characteristic as the simple one, that only needs the normal one-dimensional constant digital filter design and one-dimensional polynomial approximation. In applying such a two-dimensional variable filter, only by varying the part of one-dimensional polynomials the new desired frequency domain characteristics can be easily obtained.
