The optimal control of a unidimensional elastic structure, a thin circular cylindrical shell, subject to an axisymmetric deformation is studied. The problem is reexpressed as an evolution equation in a Hilbert space with given initial conditions. The author proves that this equation has a unique solution. When the system energy decreases exponentially, uniform stability of this solution is proved.
