The author suggests a Galerkin finite element method using a two-grid technique for solving elliptic problems with inhomogeneous essential boundary conditions. The function at the boundary is approximated by a projection of the given data on a finite-dimensional space. A two-grid method is used in the interior for solving the algebraic system. An analysis of the \(L^ 2\)-error is made. Sample computations for an illustrative problem are given.
