The paper is concerned with reflection and refraction of elastic waves at the interface of a liquid-saturated porous elastic solid (I) lying over a micropolar elastic one (II). This situation is of high importance when studying the behaviour of layers beneath the earth surface. The description of medium (I) is made in the spirit of Biot' theory, while medium (II) is treated on the basis of the so-called micropolar elastic theory. After imposing adequate boundary conditions, the authors derive expressions for amplitude ratios for reflected and refracted time-harmonic waves. Several plots show their dependence on the incidence angle. It is worthy to remark that the plots correspond to situations occuring in practice (aluminium-epoxy as micropolar elastic body and kerosene-saturated sandstone as liquid-saturated solid).
