\textit{R. Rashed} (see Zbl 0987.01003) claimed that the author's edition (see Zbl 0562.01003) of a text of Ibn al-Haytham was faulty. The author here shows the dependence of Rashed's text on Hogendijk's edition and on the way gives an introduction to the problems facing a translator and interpreter of Arabic manuscripts.
