The authors use the methods from [\textit{V. L. Kovalev}, Mosc. Univ. Mech. Bull. 54, No. 1, 9--15 (1999); translation from Vestn. Mosk. Univ., Ser. I 1999, No. 1, 37--43 (1999; Zbl 0949.80001)] to study the catalytic properties of thermoprotective material surfaces in dissociating mixture of CO\({}_2\) and N\({}_2\). A calculation is presented for convective heat flows in the neighbourhood of the critical point of Mars Pathfinder spacecraft along the launching trajectory in the Martian atmosphere.
