The paper is centred on linear stability of a transonic boundary layer over an elastic surface within the framework of an asymptotic theory of free interaction. It is shown that the very introduction of elasticity results in a lower exponent in the perturbation increment, resulting in substantial flow stabilization as compared to the case of a flow over a rigid surface.
