The authors study finite Abelian extensions \(L\) of complete discretely valued fields \(K\) of characteristic \(0\) with residue class field of prime characteristic \(p> 2\). They say that \(L/K\) has ``almost maximal depth of ramification'' if \([L:K]\) is a divisor of the different \({\mathcal D}_{L/K}\). The main results of the present paper are conditions under which \([L:K]|{\mathcal D}_{L/K}\) is satisfied.
