The paper deals with the construction of a special splitting for general rectangular matrices. It is based upon the outer inverse of the coefficient matrix, for which the range and null space are given. This splitting generalizes some previous well known versions. Moreover, the splitting obtained by the authors generates an iterative method convergent under some additional assumptions to the minimal norm solution of the initial system.
