This paper is devoted to an analysis of the rate of convergence of V-cycle multigrid methods for \(P_1\) finite element solutions to elliptic boundary-value problems on polygonal domains in the plane. The author analyzes Richardson smoothing in her earlier paper [Math. Comput. 71, 507-525 (2002; Zbl 0990.65121)], and here she extends the results to damped Jacobi and symmetric Gauss-Seidel smoothers.
