Using dynamical systems methods the author gives a new proof of the well-known Cairns-Whitehead Theorem. This approach permits to find a numerical sufficient condition for smoothability of topological manifolds in terms of a Lipschitz constant. Since non-smoothable Lipschitz manifolds exist the author puts forward the problem to determine the exact value of a numerical barrier for smoothability.
